The history of sugar water (spontaneous generation)

2014, Installation/

Size: Acquarium (30cm x 50cm x 40cm)

A device that drops water, an acquarium, plants, soil, a flashlight

This is an experiment based on Aristotle's theory of spontaneous generation according to which fireflies are born from the dew around the leaves.
The sweet water in the Japanese folk song about fireflies means the healthy water which is not polluted.
A simple device that drops water onto an ivy branch locally lit with a blue LED lamp to observe drops transforming.
The drop on the branch grows little by little, it falls, a new drop is born.
This is an attempt to revive this scientific theory of the ancient world, which they considered as an everyday phenomenon now called magical.
